An operation carried out by Natural Resource Conservation Network (NRCN) in partnership with Uganda Police and Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) have seen 4 arrested over illegal ivory trade.
The 4 suspects are believed to have been involved in Ivory trade across Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda. The suspects are; Akanga Charles, Ruth Musoke, Tusiima Emmanuel and Ouma Geoffrey.
They were arrested one at a time with each leading Police to the other suspect. Police told the first suspect arrested to lure his partners in crime into Police disguising as if they got a deal.
The suspects are currently under custody at Central Police Station (CPS) awaiting trial and because ivory trade is illegal according to Wildlife act of endangering protected species, they face imprisonment for up to more than one year or a fine. NRCN head of communications Sharon Okello Nagenjwa confirmed the arrests and warned the general public against engaging in poaching and other illegal wildlife activities saying the law will catch up with them.
